Balancing the Wheels of Life: Understanding Chakra Healing and Pranic Energy

Raju Ramanathan, the author of ‘Souls From Mercury: Chakra Magic: Empowering Relationships’ has rightly put it- “It is up to us, how we explore the great wonders in our body, its life force, and subtle centers we call “CHAKRAS”. We can either deny that they exist or learn to understand, work and awaken them in order to live a more fulfilling life on planet Earth.”

Chakras have started gaining attention in recent times, thanks to the rise in popularity of practices like yoga. The existence of Chakras was first documented in the Vedas, which are ancient texts of spiritual knowledge dating back to 1500 to 1000 BC.

What is a Chakra?

Chakras, also spelt as Cakras in Sanskrit are the main energy centres of the body. Although some believe that there are 114 different Chakras but there are seven main chakras and each has its own significance:

1. Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Location: In the base of the spine

Colour: Red

Root Chakra is responsible for your physical grounding and your sense of security. When this chakra is open, you experience a sense of self-assurance and resilience, knowing that you can face difficulties and remain grounded. You feel a general dip in your life force energy if this chakra is blocked.

2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana)

Location: In the lower abdomen

Colour: Orange

This chakra is responsible for creativity, sexuality, and emotional well-being. This chakra plays a pivotal role in shaping your emotional connections with yourself and others, as well as influencing your creativity and sexual energy. A blocked sacral chakra may lead to a sense of powerlessness and a feeling of lack of control in life.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura)

Location: In the upper abdomen

Colour: Yellow

Solar Plexus Chakra is responsible for personal power, self-confidence, and will. Whenever you experience digestive issues like eating disorders, heartburn, and indigestion, this is due to the blockage of this chakra.

4. Heart Chakra (Anahata)

Location: In the center of the chest

Colour: Green

The heart Chakra, as its name suggests, impacts your capacity to both give and receive love, whether it be from others or directed towards yourself. This chakra is responsible for love, compassion, and emotional balance. If this chakra is blocked, it gives way to hatred, fear of betrayal, anger, jealousy and more.

5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

Location: In the throat

Colour: Blue

Throat Chakra represents communication, self-expression, and truth. This chakra controls your ability to communicate your personal power. A person with a blocked throat chakra may experience difficulty expressing their true emotions and conveying their innermost feelings.

6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)

Location In the middle of the forehead or between the eyebrows

Colour: Indigo

The Third Eye Chakra is associated with intuition, insight, and wisdom. It controls your ability to see the big picture and connect to intuition. People who struggle to actively listen to the reality around them or lack connection to their intuition, it may be due to blockage in this chakra.

7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Location: At the top of the head

Colour: Violet or white

Crown Chakra represents spiritual connection, enlightenment, and universal consciousness. Unlocking and fully opening the crown chakra, which only a few people are able to achieve, grants access to an elevated state of awareness and higher consciousness.

How To Balance And Cleanse The Chakras

Each chakra is important and has a different function to perform. It is vital that each chakra stays healthy. If you develop imbalances like headaches, blurred vision, sinus issues, eyestrain, seizures, hearing loss, hormone imbalance, loneliness, betrayal, and any other physical or emotional issue, this is because of the blockages of chakras. By balancing the chakras, you can bring your bodies into balance and into a state of harmony.
